JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The search for a missing hiker continues in Grand Teton National Park today. Rene Dreiling, 21, was reported missing Friday after he did not show up for work at Colter Bay Village. Investigation revealed the park employee left Jenny Lake Lodge around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday for a hiking excursion.

Approximately 55 searchers are concentrating their efforts on the Cascade Canyon, Hanging Canyon, and Table Mountain areas. They are being assisted by a Teton Interagency contract helicopter. Drieling is known to change his plans in the backcountry often. His planned route was known to be Table Mountain via Cascade Canyon, or The Jaw, Mt. St. John, or Rock of Ages in Hanging Canyon.

An eye-witness tip from another hiker received today pinpointed Dreiling as last seen hiking quickly along the northwest shore of Jenny Lake. Rangers are requesting that anyone who hiked or climbed in the Cascade Canyon, Hanging Canyon, or Table Mountain areas on Wednesday, August 31 or Thursday, September 1 call the tip line at 307-739-3476.

Drieling was reportedly in good spirits when seen, and wearing no shirt with a headband and an orange/grey backpack.
