Power Outage: blackout hits western Wyoming and eastern Idaho

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Rocky Mountain Power officials say they lost a substation in Shelley, Idaho resulting in a widespread blackout in eastern Idaho and western Wyoming. Jackson Hole residents are reporting a loss of power valley-wide. Outages in Rigby, Rexburg, Basalt, Firth, Ammon, Idaho Falls, Shelley, Montpelier, Island Park, Ashton all lost power at approximately 4:45 p.m. The town of Jackson went down about 30 minutes later.

A spokesperson from Rocky Mountain Power confirmed the outage but was unable to give an estimate on how long power would be out. Crews are working on the problem. A Rocky Mountain Power outage means a loss of electricity for all Lower Valley Energy users as well.
