JACKSON HOLE, WYO – An exhaustive search for a new START Bus director has ended with the appointment of Darren Brugmann to head the valley’s transit agency.

Brugmann is a 25-year veteran of transit management. His most recent job was a nine-year stint at Snohomish County in Washington State where he was the director of transportation. He has also spent time in transportation planning and directing operations in Washington, Florida and Ohio.

Brugmann replaces Michael Wackerly who recently retired after 12 years with START Bus. Brugmann was selected from among six finalists invited to Jackson for interviews and a tour of the facilities.

“Brugmann is the right choice for the START System,” town manager Bob McLaurin said. “He has experience with grant writing, managing similar or larger-sized operations, and will be able to take our system to the next level. This is a critical time in transit in our community and we need someone able to take on some significant and political issues. We are confident that Darren is that person.”

Brugmann will officially begin on September 8, 2015.
