Jackson Whole Grocer debuts new digs
Jackson Hole, Wyoming – The community-culinary crossroads Jackson Whole Grocer has been molding for more than a year will be unveiled to the public 8 a.m. on Thursday (a ribbon-cutting happens at 9 a.m.). Roughly three times the size of its old spot, the revamped Jackson Whole Grocer will live in a 40,000-square-foot remodeled building on South Highway 89 that delivers a copious menu of offerings.
“We are creating a new town center for Jackson,” explained Erica Rice, director of marketing for JWG, “a place where you see or meet neighbors, chat in the aisles, linger over a smoothie, enjoy a glass of wine with a cup of soup.”
Yes, you read correctly: you can now saddle up to a crackling fireplace with a glass of wine at Whole Grocer. Of course beers also are on tap along with coffee, smoothies and fresh juices. The airy space, once home to Sunrise True Value Home Center, also serves a cornucopia of prepared foods. Among the new food stations is a pizza kitchen firing pies on both wood and electric ovens, panini and sushi stations, a taqueria with tacos, burritos and gluten-free options, a self-service hot bar that includes international and bistro style cuisine and an olive bar.
Rice said owner Jeff Rice wants to transform the often-vexatious task of grocery shopping. “It’s a combination of the best features of the many stores Jeff has visited in his research,” Rice said. “He looked closely at the details and picked the most customer friendly aspects that help people shop easily and quickly, but also have a great time doing it.”
Perhaps most notable about JWG’s new locale is a more efficient operation that aligns itself with many of the eco-friendly products found on Whole Grocer’s shelves. The store earned EPA’s GreenChill certification, awarded to retailers using environmentally friendly refrigeration systems. The building is also comprised of recycled resin siding via a skateboard half-pipe manufacturing company and furniture in the café area comes from reclaimed wood from de-construction. Decor elements are comprised of recycled snow fencing and the building, utilizing LED lighting, has low or no VOC paint, Rice noted.
